Charlie grew up in Atlanta in the Virginia-Highland area and graduated from Grady High School.  He joined the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve while still in High School and served in the First Marine Air Wing in the Korean War. After his military service Charlie graduated from Georgia Tech in 1958, and his first job was Ultrasonic Test Engineer with Engineering Test Services Inc., Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he performed corrosion testing and analysis of oil tankers on the east coast and gulf areas.  He next worked with Lockheed in Marietta as a manufacturing engineer setting up inspection areas for a B-1 proposal, and then he joined Martin Marietta Corporation, Orlando, for 22 years as subcontracts manager and quality engineer on DOD (Department of Defense) programs such as the Army Patriot and USAF Cruise missile. Charlie worked at United Technologies in Connecticut for 10 years and served as the Small Business Liaison Officer at the Hamilton Standard Division to develop their sources of suppliers. Charlie retired in January 1992 and has been active in teaching, consulting and speaking on SBA and DOD matters. He has been involved in many professional and civic organizations including American Society for Quality, Kiwanis Club, Buckhead Fifty Club, The Good Samaritan Health Center, a Sunday School Teacher and Stephen Minister. Charlie has a B.S. Industrial Management degree from Georgia Tech and a M.S. Management degree from Rollins College. He received President Bush's award, White House 1991 for Small Business Program, and several SBA , DOD, and industry awards. Charlie and his wife Nancy have lived in the Cumming area for six years and lived in Big Canoe for seven years before that.
